Menno van der Meulen (1968), a photographer known for his bold and
unconventional approach, reveals his latest photo book “My Perverted Legacy”.
This work, born out of more than a decade of intense and intimate photography,
offers an unprecedented look into the world of sexual fetishes and taboos. After his
move to Berlin in 2022, Van der Meulen decided to capture his final chapter at the
famous, iconic Kit Kat Club, a place notorious for its extravagant parties and
uncensored expression of sexuality. For a year, he immersed himself in this
subculture, resulting in a collection that captures the raw essence of sexual freedom
and boundary-pushing intimacy.
With nearly 300 pages of images, created between 2011 and 2024 in cities such as
Amsterdam, London, and Berlin, “My Perverted Legacy” is a testament to Van der
Meulen’s quest for the ultimate visual tension. Inspired by the dark aesthetic of films
by Pier Paolo Pasolini and David Lynch, and the dramatic use of color by
Caravaggio, Van der Meulen creates a powerful mix of beauty and provocation.
After graduating from the photo academy of Amsterdam in 2014, Van der Meulen
started exploring the boundaries between art and eroticism, and has continued to do
so ever since. In “My Perverted Legacy”, his images challenge the viewer to reflect
on the complex and often controversial aspects of sexuality.
