Fine art black-and-white photograph of a woman lying by tall grass, head tilted back and exhaling a spray of droplets into the night — by Menno van der Meulen

Exhale of Light (2013, Arnhem, The Netherlands)

“Exhale of Light” captures an instant of violent beauty — a scream, a breath, a release. The body becomes an instrument of illumination, caught between agony and ecstasy. The image, raw and grainy, evokes the photographic gesture itself: light exhaled, expelled, born from darkness. A reference to ritual purification and to the artist’s ongoing study of transformation through exposure.
