Residual Line, Berlin (2025)
(Alte Stammbahnbrücke im Düppeler Forst)
Beneath an abandoned railway bridge on the former Berlin–Potsdam line, the city thins out into a dark pocket of concrete and forest. The bridge — once part of the first Prussian railway of the 1830s and later damaged in the war — now stands without purpose, a leftover structure in a space no longer used.
A single human figure rests in the pool of light, between graffiti, sand and trees, held there by the sloping underside of the bridge. The scene is quiet, almost slowed down: no train, no traffic, only the residue of movement and the memory of a route that connected Berlin to the outside world.
